George FitzGerald Announces Album, Releases First Single

‘Fading Love’ is the debut album from British DJ and producer George FitzGerald, released on 27th April 2015.  The album’s 10 songs were recorded and produced by FitzGerald in London and in his home studio in Berlin.

George FitzGerald is an artist who first made his name DJ'ing the world's most prestigious club and festival stages, and has had a residency on the decks at Radio 1 two years running.

With ‘Fading Love’ however, FitzGerald has eschewed the constraints of club ready dance music and has explored a variety more tactile areas of electronic music and worked with unexpected collaborators who also fall outside of the expected DJ producer community.

Album writing began in an Ibiza studio rented for a few days between DJ gigs in summer 2013. It was here that George began to feel increasingly alienated from the EDM excesses and one-dimensional records he was hearing. ‘Everyone does a pill and is in love, then just goes home and real life resumes.’ The title of the album ‘Fading Love’ relates to FitzGerald’s dwindling enthusiasm for music that ignored the things going on in his own life, and documents the disintegration of his own romantic relationship.

Full Circle is a surprisingly mellow track. Immediately satisfying chords are familiar FitzGerald, but the production around them is more delicate than expected. Once you hear the soft vocals of Oli Bayston (frontman of Boxed In), it's clear that the track's chassis has been carefully designed to support them.

In stark contrast to the sort of vocal snippets expected from most electronic music, these feel much less of an afterthought. The lyrics feel as considered as their delivery, which coupled with the crisp English quality of Bayston's voice, place the track within a seam of UK dance music home to Underworld, Leftfield, New Order and The Happy Mondays.

It was in FitzGerald’s Berlin studio that lyrics to Full Circle began to take shape, viewed through the unexpected prism of a picture of footballer Eric Cantona hanging in the studio. George and his brother had kept it for years on their bedroom wall as children, but his brother had recently framed it as a birthday present. It’s a shot from Cantona’s 95-96 season in which he made a triumphant return after infamously 'kung-fu' kicking an aggressive spectator, returning full circle to a club hero.
